The Government Funding Guide

The new Government Funding Guide (RRP £35) details the best approach to statutory funding practice based on DSC’s vast experience and research findings. We can give you a greater understanding of government culture, passing on our experience so you can approach statutory funders from the best possible advantage.

The government is by far the biggest funder of the VCS, and this government is spending more than any previous one. The Government Funding Guide outlines the significant changes that have taken place since Labour came to power, the various drives and policy initiatives that have meant the start of a new relationship between government and VCS.

The book is divided into three main sections which cover:
• A background to government funding and policy – essential information for fundraisers with limited knowledge of the statutory environment
• Sources of funding – including chapters relating to central, local, regional and European government funding and funding from independent grant administrators
• Information and advice – including information on how to make an application for statutory funding.

To buy the Government Funding Guide for only £35 + p&p please visit the DSC website

GuideStar UK website will still be free, says new owner the Directory of Social Change

By John Plummer, Third Sector Online, 3 March 2010

Transfer deal with GuideStar International covered by confidentiality clause

The Directory of Social Change pledged yesterday to keep the GuideStar UK website free to users after announcing it had taken control of the site from GuideStar International.

The DSC, which provides information and training, mainly for small charities, also acquired GuideStar Data Services, the commercial arm of the organisation.
The terms of the deal are covered by a confidentiality clause, but it is understood no money changed hands.
GuideStar UK holds data on all UK charities in a more searchable form than the Charity Commission database. GuideStar Data Services also gathers details of non-charitable third sector organisations and has information on 350,000 organisations in all.
