Introducing the Value of Infrastructure Programme

The Value of Infrastructure Programme is a new three-year England-wide initiative which will help voluntary and community sector infrastructure agencies of all types to have more of an impact and to better communicate that impact to others.
This innovative and ambitious programme includes:
• awareness raising and training for infrastructure chief executives, deputies and trustees
• development of new online tools for infrastructure to track and compare progress with others
• research into the most effective support for frontline organisations
• work with funders to help them appreciate the value of infrastructure.

This is a partnership initiative between the National Council for Voluntary Organisations, Triangle Consulting and the new Third Sector Research Centre. It is funded by the Big Lottery Fund through its Building and Sustaining Infrastructure Services programme.

Training and tools
At the heart of this initiative lies a face-to-face and online learning programme available from 2010 for a small one-off fee, to help CEOs, deputies and their trustees:
• strategically plan for, monitor, communicate, compare and improve their impact;
• appropriately involve their users (frontline organisations); and
• use a major new Common Outcomes Framework for Infrastructure, and associated tools for their team.
The tools and framework, to be developed over the coming year, will build on and complement existing outcomes-based resources for infrastructure.

As the Programme develops, a new, national evidence base will emerge about infrastructure outcomes. For the first time, hundreds of infrastructure agencies will have at their fingertips robust, comparative data about their own achievements; along with the ability to compare these with other agencies, and learn more about what works, strengthening their ability to support the sector in the long-term.

First steps
They will be holding an open invitation launch workshop on Wednesday 1st July in London, for infrastructure CEOs and trustees to hear more about the Programme and give input to help shape our plans.
