About Us
The East London CVS Network (ELN) is an informal partnership comprising the 10 Councils for Voluntary Service in the boroughs of Redbridge, Havering, Tower Hamlets, Hackney, Newham, Lewisham, Barking and Dagenham, Greenwich, Bexley and the City of London, and is one of five sub-regional CVS Networks operating in London.
Formed in 2004, following the re-organisation of London Government and the creation of the ‘sub-regions’ within the capital, which were coterminous with the operational boundaries of the Learning & Skills Councils, Connexions Services, and Learning Partnerships.
ELN has a core staff of three [two co-ordinators & one administrator] and other project staff as required, hosted by member Council for Voluntary Services [CVS].
ELN fulfils a number of core functions:
- ensure issues of strategic concern are raised at regional and sub regional level
- ensure that work being undertaken in local areas is enhanced by membership of the ELN
- share best practice, skills and expertise to maintain quality support for the VCS in East London
- establish and develop relationships with sub-regional, regional and national bodies to promote corporate partner interests
- support and develop infrastructure services to meet the needs of the VCS in East London when they are best delivered sub regionally.
- use ELN as a platform for levering in resources for the benefit of partners and the wider VCS in the sub-region
- map and analyse issues taking place at a borough level with a view to addressing them strategically
- analyse and disseminate policy and regional/national activity to members of the Network
- analyse and interpret sub-regional, regional and national plans for an East London audience; and manage its own affairs in line with best practice.
